In 2017, Sean Wotherspoon, the owner of a consignment store, entered the Nike Vote Forward contest and crafted a unique design for the Nike Air Max 1/97 sneaker. This winning design was unveiled on Air Max Day in 2018, blending the distinctive wavy upper of the Air Max 97 with the classic midsole of the Air Max 1. Drawing inspiration from his love for vintage fashion, Wotherspoon incorporated elements such as corduroy panels reminiscent of ‘80s Nike caps and a retro smiley face motif on the insole. The shoe’s tongue features interchangeable Velcro patches, adding a playful touch to the overall aesthetic.
